Oostburg Christian School, Oostburg, Wisconsin
OVERVIEW
Oostburg Christian School has been growing exponentially in recent years and has exceeded all usable space, putting them at capacity. Abacus Architects led the way, creating a two-phase approach to help them not only get immediate relief, but financially plan for future growth.
In Phase I, six classrooms were added, along with two storage rooms, two new locker rooms and a full-size gym attached to the existing gymnasium. The exterior of the addition was done in brick, matching the existing façade and giving a timeless and cohesive look.
The challenges that this project faced was navigating construction without interrupting the day-to-day learning, keeping the construction site a safe place during the active school year, and planning ahead to get things right to go into Phase II when ready.
The priority in Phase I was to have the six classrooms ready for the start of the 2023-2024 school year. Our approach was to start the addition in the Spring of 2023. Then remodeling of the existing spaces could be done during the Summer when students were not present.
Phase II will see the addition of a new office and entry area, and accommodate for new specials classrooms, such as music and Spanish.
