RCS Empowers, Inc., Sheboygan, Wisconsin
OVERVIEW
From the RCS Empowers website: ‘RCS provides an array of services to children and adults with disabilities including Birth to Three, Day Services, After Hours Special Events, and Employment Services which can include job exploration, preparation, placement, and job coaching.’
Since 1955, RCS Empowers, Inc. has enhanced the lives of individuals with disabilities, providing local businesses with hired employees through RCS and providing packaging and assembly needs from within the RCS facility.
The Administrative, Employment Services and Day Services moved into their current facility in 2012. The aesthetics of these spaces hadn’t been updated since before that time and did not convey the positive, upbeat atmosphere that their program represents.
The Abacus Architects Interior Design department listened to their wish list and helped them update their lobby and two reception areas with current finishes and an energetic color palette. The multi-purpose area also received a facelift and the area leading to it was reimagined as a café, giving clients the space + opportunity to visit and fix their own specialty beverages.
While there is an active Board of Directors behind the scenes at RCS Empowers, the space that was set aside for meetings was uninspiring and did not match the passion the members hold. Martha Vande Leest, President + CEO, wanted a professional space that was both comfortable + inspiring. We helped them get both.
