Urban Loft, Manitowoc, Wisconsin
OVERVIEW
Once a mechanical contractor shot in the City of Manitowoc, our clients purchased this downtown industrial building in hopes of creating a new urban living space. With walking proximity to many establishments, and the main living area on the second level, entertainment and privacy are both easily attainable in this downtown rehabilitated dwelling.
Our clients wanted to create a unique urban industrial loft feel for this converted building. They achieved this by exposing the existing steel joist structure, lining the interior block walls with brick, and exposing both new metal conduit for the electrical and ductwork for the HVAC system. The first floor provides ample office space, and three bedrooms are located upstairs. The en suite primary bedroom contains both a free-standing tub and access to the rooftop hot tub.
Being commercially zoned and close distance to the building next door, an easement was granted and calculations were performed to ensure the correct allowable amount of window space on the west side of the building. New steel beams and columns were installed to restore the original expanse of glass in the front, making views of the river possible. Polished concrete floors finish off the industrial vibe, making this the perfect home for entertaining.
