About Cris
After a stay at home as a full-time mom, Abacus welcomes Cris back to the staff. She originally joined Abacus in 2010, and now assumes responsibility for updating the firm’s website, creating proposals and coordinating the photography of projects, among other things. In high school, Cris was interested in interior design, but was “encouraged” by her father, a cabinet-maker with experience in the real-world challenges of being a contractor, to pursue another direction. That turned out to be graphic design, and Cris brings to Abacus a background in ad agency production and design work. Cris and Abacus people go back a ways. She and Anne became friends on the volleyball court, and she and Paul rode the school bus together growing up in Oostburg.
On working with her
“I consider myself detail oriented, and I’m pretty inquisitive; I think asking the right questions is crucial in getting a job done well. Having played sports for most of my life, I have a team-player mentality, assisting where I can.”
On her favorite project
“I’m still interested in interior design and architecture in general. Though I don’t work on individual building projects, I enjoy the field and love seeing the different ways our team solves design challenges.”
On her own time
“My husband and I are in the trenches with after-school activities at this point, but I also spend time serving in the community through our church and our daughters’ school. I enjoy gardening and landscaping, and spend a great deal of time in the kitchen, usually while listening to an audiobook. On top of that, we always seem to have a DIY home project in the works.”
