About Paige

Paige always enjoyed helping her dad on his numerous house and shed projects. Each was a not-so-subtle lesson in problem solving and learning to understand why things were put together the way they were. Add the impressions and observations she made during multiple visits to nearby coastal Virginia and a desire to create beautiful things, and you have a designer in the making. At a very young age, Paige found herself intrigued with how people occupied spaces and started drawing floor plans. At Abacus, she puts her talents to use by balancing designing while also learning project management. To her, the more challenging something is, the better the opportunity to really listen, hone in on the clients’ aspirations and find a creative way to ensure the end result is not only beautiful, but meets their unique needs.

On working with her

“One of my greatest strengths is being an active listener, which helps ensure the clients’ personalities are reflected in the design. Being an avid notetaker doesn’t hurt either, especially when there are a lot of codes to keep track of or numerous obstacles involved.”

On her favorite project

“I love residential projects and working directly with the people who will be using the space. It’s a substantial, personal investment that doesn’t always have to be practical, so there’s more freedom and opportunity to express their personality. They have been the most beautiful projects I have worked on.”

On her own time

“I enjoy visiting my family and spending time with my friends. Other than that, I do just about anything creative that allows me to make or see something beautiful or to be active. Hiking, ice skating, playing the flute, and sewing top my list right now. Interestingly, I recently learned sewing pattern drafting and architectural drafting are not all that different! Who knew?”

On relational architecture

“We don’t propose one-size-fits-all solutions or incorporate ‘signature’ design moves in every project. Instead, we strive to consider the people using the space and put them at the heart of finding solutions that suit them and embody their distinct design sensibilities.”
